Are you Thinking of Adoption?

You could be wondering if adoption is for you. Many women are hesitant about the option of adoption because of preconceived ideas, but adoption has drastically improved over the years.

If you’re facing an unplanned pregnancy, you know that life can change fast. You probably have questions about your options and the adoption process. Adoption could be a fit for you if you’re thinking the following:

  • You are not ready to parent
  • Abortion is not an option for you
  • Your living situation is not fit to raise a child
  • You desire a financially and emotionally stable environment for your child
  • You want a two-parent family for your child

Types of Adoption Plans

With adoption, you have the flexibility to choose a plan that works for you. An adoption plan is an agreement between you and your adoptive family and how you interact with one other during the pregnancy, time at the hospital, and after.

Open Adoption

Open adoption is the plan for you if you want full flexibility with your child and adoptive family. With open adoption, you and the adoptive family exchange identifying information such as names, addresses, and phone numbers. You will decide on the type of communication and visitations that are most comfortable for everyone.

Closed Adoption

If you prefer to keep your identity private, closed adoption is for you. With a closed plan, there is no contact with the adoptive family or your child and no relationship building is needed. The original birth certificate is sealed and no identifying information is shared.

Semi-Open Adoption

A semi-open adoption plan is great for those wanting to stay anonymous but still, know your child and adoptive family. You’ll have contact with the family, but all contact is handled through a third party such as the adoption agency or adoption specialist of your choosing. Many times, the only shared information is your first name.
